Age ratings in music videos

With YouTube dominating the market as the number 1 video sharing website, nearly all artists choose to upload their videos. As the website does not require to prove your age, anyone can watch anything as long as they have registered a youtube account with details over the age of 18.

Recent uproar in parents has lead to music videos now being classified by the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC)


The age ratings are part of a government-backed pilot scheme, which aims to protect children from unsuitable content.


In the trial period of this age rating
84 music videos were given a certification
6 were rated U
11 were rated PG
27 were rated 12
39 were rated 15
and only one was rated 18
