Conventions of a digipak

A digipak is a type of CD packaging made out of card. Digipaks can flip open like a book, the CD in the centre portion is usually attached to the paper background. However they can also be sat loose in a sleeve. An example of this would be 'Arctic Monkeys' 3rd ablum 'Humbug', pictured below

The specification for our digipak is to have 6 panels in total. An example of this type of digipak is 'The Red Hot Chili Peppers' album 'Stadium Arcadium'

This digipak follows the theme of space, we can see below the two discs are not refered to as 'disc 1' and 'disc2' but are instead named 'jupiter' and 'mars'

As with normal CD cases, digipaks display the track listings on the back of the album. This is both practical, as the user will be able to skip to the track they want to listen to, and also allows a stylish font relating to the genre of music to be used.

In 'The Red Hot Chili Peppers'' 8th album 'By The Way' the lead singer's handwriting was used for the tracklisting on the back of the CD case.

Every digipak and CD case has the artist's name on the front cover. This allows the consumer to easily recognise the artist/band.

Below is a compilation Digipak which catches the audiences eye with a bold title in all capital letters.

Digipaks often contain pictures of the band/artist on them and also booklets that contain lyrics to the song on the album. This makes the album more of a collector's piece rather than just a CD
